Rosselkhoznadzor bans imports of almost 40 tonnes of Ukrainian beef
MOSCOW. July 14 (Interfax) - Russia's veterinary and phytosanitary oversight service Rosselkhoznadzor has banned the importation of nearly 40 tonnes of frozen beef from Ukraine, citing violations of the rules of storing and transportation.
The meat was piled up on the floor of the refrigerator. Polyethylene film was used instead of wooden trays, although the graph "packaging" in the veterinary certificate indicated that the beef sides were suspended, Rosselkhoznadzor said in a statement.
Other veterinary and sanitary regulations adopted by the Customs Union were violated, too, it said.
The suppliers listed are Svizhenka and Konotopmyaso.
The beef is currently being kept in an isolated storage facility. Samples have been taken for laboratory tests, Rosselkhoznadzor said.
