Putin contented with Russian-Indian relations

FORTALEZA. July 16 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin says he is contented with the fact that the Russian-Indian relations are continuing to develop well with the new Indian government in office.

Meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of a BRICS summit ongoing in Brazil, Putin said the two countries enjoy "an absolute consensus concerning bilateral relations, relations on the international arena, and concerning the economy and military-technological cooperation."

"Our relations are certainly strategic in nature and are based on a firm foundation of years of friendship and liking between the two peoples," Putin said.

He said he would hope the two nations and governments would be able to maintain the current level of cooperation.

The Indian prime minister said in response that, when Putin had congratulated his party on winning the elections in a telephone conversation, he felt that the two countries would continue to work successfully and that their relationship would reach a new level.

Modi said each child in India knows that Russia is India's best friend.

He said India is looking forward to Putin's visit in December.

Modi also thanked the Russian president for a clear position that he expressed at the BRICS summit and called his views attractive.
