Donetsk City Council reports overnight gunfire
KYIV. July 16 (Interfax) - Last night was not quiet in Donetsk: gunfire continued and people heard military hardware moving, the Donetsk City Council said in a report posted on its website.
"People in practically every district reported local shootouts and the sound of planes flying low and a heavy military convoy moving at late hours," the report said.
The city calmed down at 9 a.m. on Wednesday. "Service is good on all public transport lines," the City Council said.
Meanwhile, gas service repairmen have been unable to reach the gas pipeline section damaged in the July 15 shooting at the airport area.
"Armed representatives of the Donetsk People's Republic did not let them pass," the City Council stated. "According to unconfirmed reports, the servicemen have shut down the gas pipeline valve and there is no flame," it said.
In turn, the media center of the DPR militia staff told Interfax Ukrainian army planes had been seen above Horlivka and Khartsyzsk. There have been no new air strike reports.
According to the media center, the militia blew up a communication tower in the Donetsk airport. "The National Guard aircraft corrected cargo airdrops with the help of this tower. It was blown up with eight kilograms of plastic explosives," the militia staff claimed.
