DPR militia claim to have shot down two Ukrainian assault aircraft

DONETSK. July 16 (Interfax) - Two Sukhoi Su-25 assault aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force which were attacking the positions of supporters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) were shot down in the area of Saur-Mohyla, Interfax was told at the information center of the Donbas militia.

"One of the aircraft was shot from a portable air defense system near Horlivka. It flew into clouds of smoke in the direction of Myrhorod airdrome. The situation with the second one is being clarified," the militia said.

Interfax has not obtained confirmation of the fact from other sources.

According to reports of the Donbas militia, in five days starting with July 12 they have shot down four Su-25 aircraft and one Antonov An-26 military transport plane.

The Ukrainian military have refuted only one instance involving an Su-25 shot down on July 12.
