Uralvagonzavod says it won't be affected by U.S. sanctions
YEKATERINBURG. July 17 (Interfax) - The Russian major heavy machinery manufacturer Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) will not be affected by its inclusion in the U.S. sanctions list as it does not have business contacts with U.S. companies, UVZ Deputy CEO Alexei Zharich told Interfax.
"These sanctions will not affect Uralvagonzavod's operations in any way, as we don't have relations with the U.S. This actually could affect U.S. companies that wished to enter the Russian light rail transport and locomotive market together with UVZ," Zharich said.
It was reported earlier that UVZ and the U.S. company Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. had signed a protocol of intent in December 2013 on exploring opportunities for developing and manufacturing mainline locomotives in Russia.
Uralvagonzavod is a multi-industry machine-building complex manufacturing about 100 types of machinery, including military hardware, road construction vehicles, all-steel gondola railcars, specialized railcars, tank cars, etc. The company is wholly owned by the Federal Property Agency (Rosimushchestvo).
