Putin arrives in Samara region

SAMARA. July 21 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in the Samara region in the framework of his working trip to the Volga region.

The Russian president is expected to study operations of the Progress rocket and space center and to hold a meeting in Samara on social and economic development of the region.

While touring the Progress center, Putin plans to examine aviation and water equipment, which the center is creating, and to study rocket carriers' assembly and test workshops.

According to the materials on Putin's working trip, the enterprise currently works on creating absolutely new mid size rockets of the Soyuz-5 class and designing heavy and super-heavy rocket carriers to fly to the Moon and Mars.

A promising project on creating a two-stage light-class rocket carrier Soyuz-2-1v, which was launched for the first time from the Plesetsk cosmodrome on December 28, 2013, is being implemented at Progress.

Progress is also the main designer of the system project and for technical proposals on establishing the Vostochny cosmodrome.
