Senior Russian, German diplomats urge earliest possible access for investigators to Malaysian jet crash site - ministry

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin, State Secretary of the German Foreign Ministry Markus Ederer discussed the crisis in eastern Ukraine and Thursday's crash of a Malaysian jetliner in that part of the country in a phone call on Monday.

"The parties discussed crisis developments in Ukraine and problems relating to the investigation of the crash of the Malaysian airliner near Donetsk. The unquestionable need was stressed to ensure the earliest possible access to the crash site for an independent international team of experts under the guidance of the International Civil Aviation Organization and provide them with security guarantees for their entire period of work," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"In this connection, the importance of an immediate cessation of hostilities by both sides in southeastern Ukraine was emphasized and of the resumption of direct consultations in the format of a contact group with the participation of international mediators and militia representatives," it said.
