Rosneftegaz transferred most cash to dollar accounts in 2013 at 1.03-3.01% interest
MOSCOW. July 22 (Interfax) - Rosneftegaz, a Russian state holding company that controls hundreds of billions of rubles in cash thanks to the large stakes in Gazprom and Rosneft that it holds, began to hold money in foreign currency for the first time last year - in U.S. dollar deposits at Gazprombank , the company's financial statement shows.
Rosneftegaz has to disclose transactions with Gazprombank because the head of the bank, Andrei Akimov serves on the company's board of directors. Previously Rosneftegaz only reported ruble deposits at the bank.
Rosneftegaz's turnover with Gazprombank on deposit operations in foreign currency totaled $7.38 billion (234.81 billion rubles at the average exchange rate) last year, the company's report for 2013 shows. The money was deposited for terms of 187 to 372 days at annual interest rates of 1.03% to 3.01%. The company could have earned more than 8 billion rubles on the appreciation of the U.S. dollar (7.6%).
The turnover on ruble deposit transactions with Gazprombank totalled 119 billion rubles in 2013. The deposits ranged in duration from 14 to 367 days and the interest rates were 6% to 7.55%.
In 2012, ruble deposit transactions totalled 259 billion rubles. The duration ranged from two to 190 days and the interests were 4.75% to 9.15%.
The company had 198 billion rubles in ruble deposits at the end of 2013, compared to 190 billion rubles at the end of 2012.
Rosneftegaz earned 3.48 billion rubles on its deposits in 2013 and is expected to earn 4.873 billion rubles in 2014.
