Militia has no weapons to bring down Boeing - Luhansk self-defense commander

ST. PETERSBURG. July 22 (Interfax) - The militia in southeastern Ukraine has no weapons capable of bringing down a Boeing, said Alexander Kostin, commander of the Prizrak (Phantom) battalion active in Luhansk.

"Believe me, a carbine made in 1943 is not the right weapon to fight with. We do have machineguns. But we have neither mortars, nor tanks. Our only battle trophy is two armored vehicles which were restored by local specialists. We have specialists who can do everything," Kostin told reporters in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

"Fighting did take placed and the losses were large. The Ukrainian military launch massive artillery fire before starting the offensive. We are cannon fodder for them. Just three months ago, when active military operations began, there was just one machinegun per each militia fighter. What arsenals are you talking about?" Kostin said.
