Ukrainian military denies downing Boeing in error during exercises
KYIV. July 25 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has denied allegations that a Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 may have been shot down in the Donetsk region on July 17 in error during a Ukrainian Air Defense exercise.
"The Ukrainian Air Force did not carry out flights on the day of the Boeing 777 crash. The Ukrainian armed forces anti-aircraft missile systems were not used, and there was not a single launch of anti-aircraft guided missiles," the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
Some media reported earlier that training by the 156th Anti-Aircraft Missile Regiment of the Ukrainian armed forces may have caused the Boeing's crash.
A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed in the Donetsk region, killing all the 298 people on board.
