Leaders of self-proclaimed republics in eastern Ukraine unmoved by new EU sanctions
MOSCOW. July 26 (Interfax) - The leaders of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) are apparently unmoved by new sanctions imposed on them by the European Union.
Sergei Kavtaradze, a member of the DPR Security Council, said the sanctions are unlikely to affect the DPR leadership's work.
"The people in charge of building the state in the DPR think about how to fine-tune the governance mechanisms and defend their country rather than whether they will be able to go to Western Europe for vacation. We'll get over that somehow. These sanctions won't have any effect on our work," he said.
LPR Popular Front leader Olexiy Chmylenko said also that the sanctions will not have any effect on the LPR leadership's activities.
"The LPR and militia leaders don't have any real estate or [bank] accounts in Europe. We have nothing to fear. All our leaders are idea-driven fighters, and we don't care about these sanctions," Chmylenko told Interfax.
