Lavrov hopes for direct talks in contact group on Ukraine

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he is hoping for direct negotiations in the contact group on Ukraine.

"We continue contacts with our Western colleagues and our Ukrainian partners, including those from the so-called contact group. We are not losing the hope that, in addition to the teleconferences held within this contact group, which involved Russia, the Ukrainian authorities, representatives of the militia and the OSCE, direct contacts can be approved, which are absolutely necessary for beginning the dialogue on which an agreement was reached in Geneva back on April 17," Lavrov told reporters in Moscow on Monday.

"I hope that all participants in these agreements will follow them closely and will not try to violate them," the minister said.
