Belgium's Campina among suppliers of dangerous milk powder for McDonald's in Russia

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - The Belgium-based Campina has been caught supplying dangerous milk powder for McDonald's in Russia.

"We have an instance of detecting an antibiotic called chloramphenicol in the milk powder supplied for McDonald's from the Belgian facility N183, for making ice cream and milkshakes," the head of the Russian agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergei Dankvert, told Interfax.

Thus, the agency's suspicions about the dairy products supplied from the EU to Russia in general and for the McDonald's chain in particular, proved to be not without reason, he said.

FrieslandCampina Professional is N 183 on the list of Russia's Belgian dairy suppliers posted on the Rosselkhoznadzor's website.

It was reported that after banning imports of Ukrainian dairy products Rosselkhoznadzor tightened monitoring of cheese imports, primarily from the EU. The list included also Czech and German companies which supply cheese for McDonald's.
