Western sanctions against Russia to have boomerang effect - Belarusian foreign minister

MINSK. July 28 (Interfax) - Western sanctions regarding Russia could have a boomerang effect against those introducing them, Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makey said.

"As to the current sanctions, which the United States and Europeans want to introduce or already introduced against Russia, I think that taking into account that Russia is a huge, strong economic power, military power, these sanctions could have a boomerang effect against those introducing them," Makey said in an interview with the STV television channel on July 27.

"And if, God forbid, Russian economy collapses, I think that European economy will have it hard as well," the minister said.

"Probably some third power sitting far overseas will win but this is a separate issue," he said.

"In any case, sanctions are not a method to resolve the issue. And Europeans should calculate clearly all variants before making these or those decisions - or else these decisions could turn against them," Makey said.
