Russian travelers alerted to Ebola risks in West Africa
MOSCOW. July 28 (INteffax) - Russia's health and consumer rights oversight service Rospotrebnadzor has alerted citizens planning to travel to West Africa to the risks of caching the Ebola disease in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
"Jointly with the World Health Organization Rospotrebnadzor is monitoring the situation. Recommendations have been referred to its territorial branches, to health authorities and the Rostourism federal agency for tourism. Should symptoms of the Ebola disease make themselves felt while in West Africa or back in Russia, one should immediately request medical attention," Rospotrebnadzor's press service said on Monday.
It said 1,093 Ebola cases have been registered, with 660 of them lethal. Four hundred and fifteen cases have been registered in Guinea, including 314 lethal; 224 in Liberia, including 127 lethal and 454 in Sierra Leone, including 219 lethal.
The incidence of new cases has decreased in Guinea over the past three weeks. However, the WHO did not recommend that curbs be put on travel to or trade with Guinea, Liberia or Sierra Leone.
The Ebola disease is an acute viral and extremely contagious disease with a 90% fatal outcome.
