Ukrainian military claim to have seized control over Debaltseve city in Donetsk region

KYIV. July 29 (Interfax) - The city of Debaltseve (Donetsk region) is controlled by the Ukrainian military, the press center for the security operation held in east Ukraine said on Tuesday.

Debaltseve is of "great strategic importance," being "a potent railway center of Ukraine," and a city that helped finally unblock the encircled Ukrainian army units, the press center wrote on Facebook.

A large quantity of equipment, ammunition and weapons has been found in the city, the statement said.

Additional roadblocks were installed on the roads, which helped strengthen the positions and "narrow down the circle around Horlivka and Donetsk," the statement said.

Meanwhile, DPR representatives said earlier on social networking sites that the city of Debaltseve came under artillery fire that involved cluster bombs, multiple rocket launchers and howitzers.
