Palestine may join International Criminal Court, sue Israel for war crimes - diplomat
MOSCOW. July 31 (Interfax) - Palestine may join the International Criminal Court (ICC) and file a lawsuit against Israel in an attempt to hold it responsible for war crimes against Palestinians, says Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Fayed Mustafa.
"We are considering the joining of the Roman Statute and the State of Palestine's accession to the ICC. The Palestinian leadership is currently analyzing this issue [the filing of a lawsuit against Israel]," Mustafa said at a press conference at the Interfax main office on Thursday.
The Palestinian leadership considers this step its "right and duty," Mustafa said. "This is our lawful step that complies with international law. We have warned Israel about this. It is afraid that, once joining this organization, we could make such a claim against Israel," he said.
"The actions being committed by Israel are war crimes that don't have a statute of limitations," he said.
