Amnesty applies to almost 71,000 people - Chaika

SELIGER. August 1 (Interfax) - The amnesty declared in Russia in December 2013 was applied to almost 71,000 people, Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika said.

"The amnesty, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Russian Constitution and initiated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, has ended recently. It applied to 70,988 citizens and 21,500 of them are underage," Chaika told reporters at Seliger on Friday.

About 28,000 people under investigation were relieved of criminal liability at the pre-trial stage, he said.

"The amnesty application proceeded in strict compliance with the law and no incidents and issues related to its execution and demanding interference of the Prosecutor General's Office have occurred," the prosecutor general said.
