Second injured person found trapped after gas explosion in Murmansk

MURMANSK. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Another man was found by rescuers trapped under rubble after a gas explosion destroyed a part of a five-storey residential building in the city of Murmansk, Russian Emergency Situations Ministry spokesperson for the Murmansk region Tatyana Zakharova told Interfax.

"One more injured person has been found under the rubble. He has been rescued," she said.

The cleanup operation continues at the site of the accident, Zakharova added, declining to say when this work may be completed.

Ninety-four specialists and 20 units of equipment are working at the scene.

A criminal investigation has already been opened into the gas explosion.

The Murmansk region police earlier confirmed the death of an elderly woman as a result of the accident.

The first man trapped under the rubble was found by rescuers immediately after the gas explosion, which occurred early on Tuesday morning. He was rushed to hospital in serious condition.

The gas explosion destroyed the fourth and fifth floors of the apartment building, located on Nevsky Street in Murmansk.
