Militant killed in Kabardino-Balkaria
MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - A militant wanted by federal authorities has been eliminated in a security operation in one of populated areas in the Russian Republic of Kabardino-Balkaria (KBR).
"The surrounded militant refused to give up and surrender to the authorities. During the storming of the building he sustained injuries and died. He has been tentatively identified as Timur Betuganov who was on the federal wanted list," spokesman for the National Anti-terrorist Committee (NAC) Dmitry Pavlov told journalists on Tuesday.
According to NAC, Betuganov was involved in an attack on police officers.
Two police officers sustained minor injuries during the security operation which was taking place in the village of Lechinkai, Pavlov added.
The KBR operations headquarters said earlier that a counterterrorist operation was taking place in that village.
