Russia registers over 20 cases of African swine fever in July

MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Russia registered over 20 cases of African swine fever in July, Russian agricultural watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor said, citing data from the World Organization for Animal Health.

Most of these cases - eight - occurred in Pskov region, six in Kaluga region and four in Smolensk region. African swine fever was also registered in the Novgorod, Voronezh and Tula regions.

Rosselkhoznadzor data show that there were new cases of the fever in August as well. The illness was identified in nine pigs at two farms. African swine fever was also discovered in the Tula region following research of pathological matter from pigs illegally buried in the Zaoksky district.

Data from the World Organization for Animal Health show that 24 incidents of African swine fever arose in Latvia, six in Poland and one in Lithuania.

Overall, 428 cases of dangerous animal diseases were registered around the world in July. This mostly concerns foot and mouth disease, bluetongue and nodular dermatitis.
