Donetsk "people's governor" vows to destroy rounded-up Ukrainian army brigade

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 5 (Interfax) - The 72nd motorized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which has been rounded up by militias, is demoralized and unable to offer resistance, said Pavlo Hubarev, the "people's governor" of the self-proclaimed Donetsk people's republic.

"No more than one battalion is left of the whole brigade, and very soon our units in this area will be reinforced with heavy vehicles and the remainder of the brigade will be destroyed," Hubarev told Interfax on Tuesday.

"The retreat of hundreds of the brigade's troops across the Russian border attests to the inability of the Ukrainian General Staff to control their military units and subdivisions in the warring southeast (of Ukraine)," Hubarev said.

A day earlier over 400 Ukrainian troops, mostly from the 72nd motorized brigade, asked Russian border guards to open a humanitarian corridor via Russia.
