Uzbekistan leads CIS industrial output growth in H1; Ukraine posts biggest decline
MOSCOW. Aug 5 (Interfax) - Uzbekistan's industrial output rose 8.1% in the first half of 2014 compared with the same period last year, the highest industrial output growth among the CIS countries, the CIS Interstate Statistics Committee reported.
The worst result was in Ukraine, where industrial output contracted 4.7%.
Industrial output grew 7.2% in Kyrgyzstan, 4.2% in Moldova (in January-May), 2.9% in Tajikistan and 1.5% in Russia. Growth in industrial output was nil in Armenia.
Industrial output contracted 0.4% in Kazakhstan, 1% in Belarus and 2.4% in Azerbaijan. The Statistics Committee had no data for Turkmenistan.
Inflation in the six months was highest in Ukraine at 11.6% and in Belarus at 10.2%.
Inflation was 5.9% in Kyrgyzstan, 4.8% in both Russia and Kazakhstan, 4.5% in Tajikistan and 2.2% in Moldova.
Consumer prices declined 0.9% in Armenia and 1.3% in Azerbaijan. No data was available for Turkmenistan and Ukraine.
On average, the CIS countries boosted industrial output 0.7% in the first half, freight shipments were up 1.4% and retail trade expanded 3.5%, while investment in fixed assets declined 2.1%.
