Flow of migrants from Central Asia down 26% after liability for illegal immigration tightened - migration service
MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax) - The number of immigrants from Central Asia entering Russia decreased 26% after the liability for illegal immigration was enhanced, Russian Federal Migration Service Chief Konstantin Romodanovsky said at a coordinating meeting in the Prosecutor General's Office on Wednesday.
"According to our assessments, the measures to tighten the liability, including criminal, for violating legislation have given positive results. The entry of foreign citizens to Russia, in particular from Central Asian states, has declined 26%," Romodanovsky said.
The share of violations of the procedures of staying Russia went down 25% and the number of foreigners employed legally increased 40%, he said.
"We have stimulated foreign citizens so that they legitimize their status in Russia. So, just in six months foreign citizens were issued 1.5 million patents, which brought about 10 billion rubles to the budget," Romodanovsky said.
