Russian Defense Ministry plans to open accounts in social networks to report army events

MOSCOW. Aug 6 (Interfax-AVN) - Information about events conducted by the Russian Armed Forces will soon be available to representatives of the Pentagon and the U.S. State Department in social networks, the Russian Defense Ministry says.

"With the purpose of helping representatives of the Pentagon and the State Department and also to rule out insinuations about 'a Russian military threat' the Defense Ministry of Russia is now considering the establishment of special accounts on social networks and in video hosting services to make the objective information about the events conducted by the Russian Armed Forces known to the U.S. intelligence community," Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said to journalists on Wednesday.

"Representatives of the USA and NATO countries during the past few months have been inspecting Russia's regions bordering on Ukraine under the Treaty on Open Skies almost on a weekly basis without finding any military preparations or concentration of troops there," he said.

"Meanwhile, the 25-thousand strong grouping of heterogenous forces of Ukraine conducing large-scale hostilities near the Russian border for some reason arouses no concern in Europe or the U.S.," the general stressed.
