Western sanctions to create no issues for Russian space industry in near future - URSC president

MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax-AVN) - The Russian rocket and space industry will not experience issues with foreign parts in the coming years as the necessary stock has been collected, United Rocket and Space Corporation (URSC) President Igor Komarov said on Rossiya 24 (Russia 24) TV channel on Friday.

"In the short term a certain stock [of parts] exists for 2014-2015," Komarov said.

"I do not think that serious consequences will appear over sanctions," he said.

However, sanctions could create problems in the rocket and space industry in the mid-term, Komarov said, he said.

Nevertheless, this issue is resolvable because production of parts can be set up, the URSC president said. Having necessary funds and timelines is the main criteria here, he said.

The introduction of sanctions regarding Russia is a good opportunity for unifying the parts needed for the industry in Russia, Komarov said.

"We need to count on a certain independence. We will carry out work at least on key devices and elements in order to ensure self-sufficiency and independence," he said.

In the long term "the landscape of our partners will change very drastically," Komarov said.
