Armenia has over 300-km range missiles - president Sargsian
YEREVAN. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Armenian President Serzh Sargsian has said his country does have something to respond with in the event of a missile strike against Yerevan.
"We have all been perfectly informed about each side's military capabilities. No, I am not afraid of saying that in the event of a renewed war the Azeri armed forces from Nakhichevan will be able to also reach the boundaries of Yerevan, but such actions will never go unpunished," Sargsian said in an interview with the Armnews television channel.
He said the Azeri government knows about the capabilities and potentials of the Armenian army.
"They are perfectly aware that we have ballistic missiles whose range exceeds 300 kilometers and which can swiftly turn any prosperous populated area into ruins like those of Agdam today. It is a matter of choice. If they decide that military action can and must be taken and that they can target Armenian populated areas other than those along our border, they should think of their own responsibility," said Sargsian, commenting on several media reports that Azeri missiles "are capable of erasing Yerevan off the face of the earth."
