KYIV. Aug 11 (Interfax) - Three people died and 16 in Donetsk were injured in artillery strikes last weekend, the city council said in a statement posted on its website on Monday.

"During the weekend, on August 9-10, three civilians died in Donetsk - two people in the Kyivsky district and one in the Kirov district. Sixteen citizens sustained injuries of varying degrees," the document said.

Donetsk's Kirovsky, Petrovsky and Kuibyshevsky district came under heavy artillery fire during the weekend. As a result, district infrastructure and residential houses were damaged. In particular, the reception of a clinic and a hospital were partially damaged in the Kyivsky district.

A private residential house at Standartna Street was destroyed by a shell in the Kuibyshevsky district. A woman and a child were trapped underneath the stricken building and neighbors helped them to get out before ambulances and rescuers arrived.
