In cooperation with Int'l Red Cross Russia sends humanitarian convoy to Ukraine - Putin tells Barroso
MOSCOW. Aug 11 (Interfax) - On Monday Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the situation in Ukraine with European Commission Chairman Jose Manuel Barroso by telephone, Putin's press office said in a statement.
"Putin has assessed the reason for the conflict emerging in this country. Emphasis has been made on the catastrophic consequences of the military operation being carried out by the Kyiv authorities in south-eastern regions and the necessity of delivering humanitarian aid to the conflict zone immediately," the press office said.
"It has been noted that Russia in cooperation with representatives of the international Committee of the Red Cross is sending a humanitarian convoy to Ukraine," the Kremlin press office said.
According to the statement, "Putin and Barroso also discussed some pressing issues of EU-Russia cooperation, including in the context of Ukraine signing the association agreement with the European Union and measures taken by Russia in response to Western sanctions and foreseeing ban of agricultural products imports from the EU states."
