DPR demands Ukraine free captured militiamen injured in detention

MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax) - Leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic said it intended to seek the hand-over by Ukraine to the militia of all persons on the "20 for 20" list, including those injured in detention.

"Ukraine told us that the five-six individuals, who are not ready for transfer yet, are in the intensive care units of different hospitals, so yesterday they were in cells and today they have decided to treat them," DPR First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Purgin told Interfax.

This is done so that "during handover International Red Cross experts will not see the state in which our activists have found themselves after being in Ukrainian detention facilities," he said.

"We demand that they be handed over to us as quickly as possible, we have hospitals of our own. But international experts should see what was done to them in Ukrainian detention facilities," Purgin said.

All 20 people from the list provided to militia by Ukraine are feeling fine, the deputy prime minister said.

"All those we detained, whose surrender Ukraine demands, feel fine. They have no injuries and the detention conditions of these people are in line with international demands for the treatment of prisoners of war," Purgin said.

Interfax does not yet possess comments from Ukraine regarding the DPR representative's statements.
