Kyiv guarantees security of humanitarian convoy, if it formed by ICRC

KYIV. Aug 13 (Interfax) - Ukraine will ensure security of the humanitarian convoy if it is formed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said.

"Ukraine will ensure security for the column with humanitarian cargo passing to its destination," Lysenko said at a briefing on Wednesday.

The ICRC deals with accepting humanitarian cargo and delivering it to troubled regions, Lysenko said. According to the spokesman, the ICRC should make sure that cargo poses to threat and that it can be delivered.

"As a rule, cargo sent to transit area are checked by the ICRC there and then columns are formed, which deliver cargo to sites," Lysenko said.
