Russian ministry presents transit corridor for Chinese freight to U.S.

MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Russia's Transport Ministry has presented a new corridor to Chinese officials for the shipment of goods from China through Kazakhstan and Russia to the United States, the ministry said after the first meeting of a bilateral working group on transit shipments.

The Urumchi - Dostyk - Murmansk - Eastern American Ports corridor could "significantly reduce the delivery times for goods," the ministry said in a statement.

"The participants of the working group favourably viewed the potential of the corridor and agreed to inform potential investors in the construction of a container terminal at the Murmansk port about it," the ministry said.

The working group also discussed the development of the transit potential of the Primorye-1 and Primorye-2 transport corridors in Russia's Far East, the Zarubino Big Port project, improving the laws and regulations of the two countries in order to optimize border crossings for transit freight. China was represented by Deputy Transportation Minister Ven Meniun and Russia was represented by Deputy Transport Minister Alexei Tsydenov.
