Security measures tightened for Medvedev's Twitter account - govt spokesperson

MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - The consequences of the hacker attack on Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev's official microblog on Twitter have been fully eliminated and security measures tightened, a government spokesperson told Interfax on Thursday.

"Unfortunately, global practice shows that no one is insured against break-ins, neither politicians, nor ordinary citizens, nor authoritative media outlets," the Cabinet spokesperson said.

The Twitter account of the head of government was hacked on Thursday morning. It contained a number of messages, including one alleging that the premier was stepping down. Literally within minutes of the first tweets appearing, a government spokesperson confirmed the hacking, underlining that all the latest messages were untrue. Sometime later all the fake tweets had been removed.
