Urals gives shelter to over 5,000 Ukrainian refugees - presidential envoy
TYUMEN. Aug 15 (Interfax) - About 5,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in constituent territories of the Urals, said Russian Presidential Representative to the Urals Federal District Igor Kholmanskikh.
"Their number is changing day by day, refugees are arriving and departing. It is our primary task today to solve the problems of forced migrants," Kholmanskikh said at a press conference in Tyumen on Friday.
Each Urals constituent territory has set up a regional staff and there is a district staff, as well, he added.
"Every territory is practically operating in the emergency situation regime. This is truly an emergency because people arriving in the territory need primary, medical and other aid," Kholmanskikh said.
The regional authorities are tasked to help the refugees obtain the necessary documents and to offer jobs to those who wish to stay in Russia, the envoy emphasized.
"We have rather many jobs in every constituent territory," he continued.
In turn, acting Tyumen Region Governor Vladimir Yakushev said the region had been creating conditions for every arrival from Ukraine "to feel cozy and comfortable."
"Our main task is to help them find a job; this is the focus of our efforts. I have to say that the arrivals have occupations, which are in demand in this region - gas welding operators and drivers," Yakushev said.
