Militia claims it has brought down two Ukrainian fighter jets
MOSCOW. Aug 17 (Interfax) - The militia in eastern Ukraine said it has shot down two Sukhoi Su-25 attack aircarft near Krasnodon.
The wreckage has been found. A search is on for the pilots, the Novorossiya news agency reported on Sunday.
The plane could have been steered by a non-Ukrainian crew. Their information exchanges were intercepted, the militia said.
No confirmation of this report from other sources is available to Interfax.
Spokesman for the counterterrorism operation Leonid Matyukhin said earlier on Channel Five that a MiG-29 fighter jet of the Ukrainian Air Force was shot down in the Luhansk region. The pilot ejected, Matyukhin said.
He also said that the plane was attacked early on Sunday after the pilot delivered an air strike.
The pilot has been evacuated to safety, the spokesman said.
