SK Chemicals to become resident of Primorye petrochemicals cluster

VLADIVOSTOK. Aug 18 (Interfax) - SK Chemicals, a division of South Korea's SK Group, plans to become a resident of the petrochemicals cluster being created in Primorye, the press service of the regional administration said in a statement.

SK Chemicals' global business general manager, Kim Dae Su, and the director of Primorye's international cooperation and tourism development department, Alexei Starichkov discussed the progress of the cluster's formation and the possibility of the company's participation in this process.

SK Chemicals plans to become a resident of the Primorye petrochemicals cluster, the representative of the Korean company said.

The project to build the petrochemicals complex around which the cluster will be created in the Partizansk district is being implemented by Far East Petrochemical Company (FEPCO), a subsidiary of state oil major Rosneft . The regional administration and Singapore's Jurong plan to establish a site near the FEPCO plant for manufacture of products from subsequent processing of oil products.

The SK Chemicals representative said the company intends to expand its business by setting up production in Russia's Far East. In Primorye, the company plans to make products for the automotive industry.

Starichkov said that the Sollers auto plant in Vladivostok plans to be producing 75,000 automobiles annually by 2016. It will also produce automobile components. Furthermore, he said, the Chinese city of Changchun, which produces more than 1 million automobiles annually, is 400 km away.

"All this opens up big opportunities for the sale of your products that will be made in Primorye," Starichkov said.

He said that the best economic conditions, infrastructure, and special tax and customs regimes will be established for the residents of the cluster.

SK Chemicals is one of South Korea's largest producers of chemical products and film, and is a leading world producer of polyol, propylene oxides and polyurethane.
