55,000 Ukrainian refugees remain in Rostov region - authorities

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 18 (Interfax) - A total of 55,161 citizens of Ukraine, including 16,400 children, are now accommodated on the territory of the Rostov region, the press service for the region's government has reported, citing the region's emergency situations department.

"Despite the fact that the number residents of the neighboring state who cross the Russian-Ukrainian border daily remains high, the authorities of the Rostov region have considerably intensified their work to send refugees to other regions of Russia by railroad transport, which helps reduce the number of people in field temporary accommodation facilities," the region's Deputy Governor Vadim Artyomov was quoted as saying.

Specifically, 570 citizens of Ukraine were sent to Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Ivanovo, and Vladimir from the railway station Likhaya.

The field temporary accommodation facility near the city of Gukovo was earlier closed because the quota for the provision of temporary residence in the Rostov region for citizens of Ukraine had been used up. A total of 4,510 refugees are accommodated in the remaining temporary accommodation facilities and over 46,000 people are staying at their relatives.

The people who were in the temporary accommodation facility of Gukovo have been sent to other temporary accommodation facilities in the Rostov region. They are located near the cities of Donetsk, Rostov region, Matveyev-Kurgan, and Novoshakhtinsk.
