Over 1,000 criminal inquiries into Ukrainian draft evasion
KYIV. Aug 19 (Interfax) - Ukrainian prosecutors are conducting over a thousand criminal inquiries into evasion of the military draft and mobilization.
"In April-August 2014, law enforcement authorities opened over a thousand criminal inquiries into the dodging the draft, mobilization and military record," spokesman for the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office Yury Boichenko said at a briefing on Tuesday.
Most of them are investigated under Article 336 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (draft evasion), he said. "Most of these criminal inquiries have been launched in the Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk and Kherson regions (332, 326 and 92, respectively)," he said.
The investigation has been completed and indictments sent to the courts in 26 criminal cases, of which six have already been heard and resulted in guilty verdicts, the spokesperson said.
