Russia to finish construction of Arctic rescue centers in five years
SYKTYVKAR. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The construction of Arctic rescue centers will be complete in five years, Russian Deputy Emergency Situations Minister Alexander Chupriyan told reporters in Syktyvkar on Thursday.
"A rescue center was commissioned in Naryan-Mar in 2013. A similar center will open in Arkhangelsk this year. There will be such centers in Murmansk and Vorkuta, too. We intend to finish the construction of rescue centers throughout the Arctic region in five years. Such facilities will be ready in the Northwestern Federal District shortly," Chupriyan said.
He noted that the rescue centers were being built consistent with a federal target program for the reduction of risks and consequences of natural and man-made disasters. In all, there will be ten centers of the kind in the Russian Arctic.
