U.S. experts will help Ukraine resolve energy crisis - Kyiv

KYIV. Aug 21 (Interfax) - U.S. experts will join the work of the Energy Crisis Headquarters of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers, the press service for the Ukrainian Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Communal Services Ministry reported, following a meeting between Volodymyr Hroysman, regional development, construction, housing and communal services minister and first deputy prime minister of Ukraine, and William Bryan, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure Security and Energy Restoration of the U.S. Department of Energy, on Thursday.

"Government specialists from the United States of America, who are experienced in working in emergency situations where there is limited or no electrical power supply, will join the work of the Energy Crisis Headquarters of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers," the report says.

Participants in the meeting agreed that the main point on which common efforts should be focused is the fall and winter period in Ukraine under the conditions of halted supply of Russian gas and, especially, the solution to this issue in the eastern regions. Participants in the meeting discussed measures that could be proposed by the U.S. to help Ukraine in this situation, the Ukrainian ministry has reported.

According to the press service, Bryan said the U.S. experts' task is to help Ukraine survive the coming winter and they are working on technologies, procedures instruments and models to prepare for emergency situations in a situation of halted power supply.

Bryan said the expert group will be formed in the very near future.
