Medvedev pledges continue support to farm sector, including grain purchase interventions

SVOBODA (Kursk region). Aug 22 (Interfax) - Russia has allocated nearly 14.5 billion rubles to support domestic crop raising, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

"In order to guarantee the effective operation of the farm sector, agricultural producers were allocated serious funds from the federal budget. Almost 14.5 billion rubles in discretionary support was allocated to crop raising, 8 billion rubles to subsidize interest on short-term loans, and over 9 billion rubles on investment loans," Medvedev said at a meeting on development of agriculture.

"I want to say right off that we will support the farm sector in future," he said. "We will find the money for that, including potential purchase interventions on the grain market," he said.

Medvedev said there are a whole host of proposals for support, including for domestic rice producers.
