Customs Union members not opposed to Armenia's accession but not all happy - President Sargsian
YEREVAN. Aug 24 (Interfax-AVN) - Armenian President Serzh Sargsian doesn't think that all members of the Customs Union are glad about his country's accession to the organization.
"The Customs Union is not one country and to a certain extend I agree with the opinion that, probably, not all [member-nations] are glad [about it]. We are a small country, a country with problems and, naturally, accession to any union causes certain problems to its members," he said at a meeting with participants in Baze-2014 youth convention.
"But on the other hand, one should not think that members of the Customs Union are opposed to our accession. Otherwise, they would have imposed a veto. An accurate evaluation of the situation is such: the claims that we are being compelled to become members of the Customs Union as soon as possible are not true. The accelerated process stems from us, not someone else's wishes or pressure. This is a normal process," the Armenian leader said.
He described accession to the Customs Union as an important stage in the development of Armenia.
"Apparently, much will change in our country," Sargsian said.
