Kyiv shows aggressive plans towards southeast Ukraine - Naryshkin

MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - The military parade held in Kyiv a day earlier demonstrates intentions to escalate the crisis in the southeastern Ukraine, said State Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin.

"A military parade took place in Kyiv yesterday. The parade also involved the military forces which have been waging a punitive operation in the east of the country for several months now. I don't know what prompted such a decision, but instead of calling for a peaceful dialogue, instead of a mourning ceremony for victims of this bloody conflict without an exception, they staged a demonstration of their aggressive plans to escalate the crisis," Naryshkin told journalists on Monday.

He said that Kyiv officials have been increasingly clear in their "manifestation of Nationalism and National Socialism," both in words and actions.

"With such a maniacal persistence, they continue their attempts to disunite the Russian and Ukrainian people who, by their origin, by history and culture make a unified whole. I doubt that the ideologists of such a policy fully realize all possible consequences," Naryshkin said.

This is obvious, "given that these people are often citizens of other states, brought up in a different tradition, with a different moral code," he said.

He also said that the Ukrainian crisis creates serious tensions in Europe. "Some of Western politicians, instead of helping de-escalate the conflict, are only using it as a pretext for exerting pressure on Russia," Naryshkin said.

Sooner or later, necessary measures will be taken, "but what matters most is what price the whole of Europe will be paying for this crisis," he said.
