Two Russian-Ukrainian border checkpoints in Rostov region not working due to inaction of Ukrainian employees

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Vehicles and people are not permitted to cross at the Voloshino multi-way vehicle checkpoint of the Millerovskaya customs and Veselo-Voznesenka checkpoint of the Taganrog customs as checkpoints in Ukraine are closed.

"As of 11 a.m. Moscow time on Monday, individuals and vehicles are not being permitted through the Voloshino customs post but officials are on site and ready to clear private individuals and vehicles across the border," the Southern Customs Department press office said.

Officials from the Veselo-Voznesenka checkpoint of Taganrog customs were evacuated yet again in the evening of August 24, the press office said. People and vehicles are not permitted to cross the border now.

Gunfire decreased on Monday morning and customs post personnel returned to their work places at 9 a.m. Moscow time. People and vehicles are not permitted to cross the border for now as the Novoazovsk checkpoint in Ukraine is not working.

The remaining customs posts at checkpoints at the Russian-Ukrainian border of the Southern Customs Department are working in an orderly manner.

During the last weekend officials from the Matveyev Kurgan checkpoint of the Taganrog customs were forced to evacuate to a safe location three times due to intense gunfire and artillery strikes near the Uspenka border checkpoint in Ukraine, the press office said.

After gunfire ceased in Ukraine and the situation near the border stabilized, Russian border guards returned to their work places.
