Dixy agrees on expansion of fruit, vegetable shipments from Serbia

MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Russian retailer Dixy has agreed on the expansion of deliveries of fruit and vegetables from Serbia due to the food embargo.

According to a press release of the Economic Development Ministry, a business mission to Belgrade took place with the participation of the Russian trade mission in Serbia. Representatives of the retailer met with the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Rasim Ljajic, Serbian Chamber of Commerce president Zeljko Sertic and leading Serbian producers of agricultural products.

The talks concerned the organization of deliveries of Serbian apples, pears, plums, peaches, apricots and other products to Russia. Transport issues and financial conditions of the shipments were also discussed.

Dixy's vice president for logistics and international cooperation, Marat Magkeyev, told Interfax that the retailer aiming towards an increase in the volume of deliveries and an expansion of the pool of suppliers.

He said, Dixy customers know Serbia products, primarily apples, which have already been present on neighborhood store shelves for about four years.

"An agreement was reached on the import of red bell peppers, the first consignment of which is expected at the end of this week," Magkeyev said.
