Sanitary control tightened in Russia over Ebola concerns
MOSCOW. Aug 25 (Interfax) - Russia's health and consumer rights oversight service Rospotrebnadzor is monitoring African students arriving in Russia for studies, in order to prevent the arrival of the Ebola fever.
"Rospotrebnadzor continues efforts to prevent the spreading of the Ebola fever. African students arriving in Russia for studies are examined. Sanitary and quarantine control has been tightened for people entering Russia," it said.
Rospotrebnadzor said, citing the World Health Organization, that 2,615 people have been infected with Ebola and 1,427 of them have died.
As many as 607 Ebola infections have been reported in Guinea, with 406 of the cases fatal; 1,082 in Liberia with 624 fatal outcomes, 910 in Sierra Leone with 392 deaths, and 16 in Nigeria with five fatalities. According to the Health Ministry of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, an area has been identified, where groups of people caught the hemorrhagic fever. Thirteen deaths have been reported, with two linked to Ebola," Rospotrebnadzor said.
Rospotrebnadzor also said that it has sent experts to Conakry in the Republic of Guinea to perform diagnosing procedures and to take part in anti-epidemic measures in cooperation with the Guinean Health Ministry and the World Health Organization.
The Ebola fever is a severe condition which ends up in deaths in up to 90% of the cases. The infection is transmitted through blood, fluids and tissues.
