Over 100 Kyrgyz citizens fighting in Syria - ex-ombudsman

BISHKEK. Aug 27 (Interfax) - It is possible that Kyrgyz citizens are recruited to fight in Syria on the Turkish territory, former Ombudsman Tursunbek Akun said at a press conference on Wednesday.

"Judging by unconfirmed reports, more than a hundred citizens of ours are fighting in Syria," he said.

Most probably, the recruiters are deployed in Turkey where Kyrgyz citizens are looking for jobs or studying, Akun said.

Another speaker, Anti-Corruption Public Assistance union coordinator Nurlan Alymkulov said, "Certain citizens, including girls, go working in Turkey but their ids are seized and they are sent wherever necessary."

Sources in the Kyrgyz relevant authorities said many young Kyrgyz citizens studying or working in Turkey "had been experiencing pressure from recruiters who wished to send them to Syria."
