Roscosmos to continue using foreign non-radiation electronics in next few years

MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax-AVN) - According to the federal space program or 2016-2025 submitted by Roscosmos to the government, Roscosmos will have to use imported electronic components unprotected from the impact of space radiation in space equipment, i.e., components not falling into the Space category, for another five years.

"The production of domestic electronic components, which would enable the Russian rocket and space industry to make spacecraft with long active life (up to 10-15 years) is not developing dynamically enough and the purchase of foreign electronic components falling into the Space category is limited by their high cost and some restrictions imposed by some countries on the sale of such electronic components to Russia," the document says.

"Thus, rocket and space industry enterprises will have to use foreign electronic components that often do not have radiation resistance certificates and suppliers' guarantees in the next 5-7 years," the document says.

Roscosmos said the purchase of foreign electronic components requires additional tests, increases its cost and, eventually, the period of time needed for the production of spacecraft and other rocket and space technologies, and irregular supply, constant delays and problems with purchases make it practically impossible to organize serial production of rocket and space equipment.
