Ukrainian govt troops trying to break out of encirclement in Luhansk region - militia
LUHANSK. Aug 28 (Interfax) - The villages of Khryashchuvate and Novosvitlivka in the Krasnodon district of the Luhansk region have seen heavy fighting between self-defense forces and Ukrainian armed forces, a Krasnodon militia spokesperson told Interfax.
"Heavy fighting is under way near these villages. An enemy group supported by artillery is trying to break out of the blockade," he said on Thursday.
"Five vehicles with ammunition and 10 Ukrainian soldiers have been destroyed near the community of Valuiske," he said.
Some residents of Lysychansk, which the militia had left earlier, said armored vehicles of the Ukrainian army had entered the city.
"The Ukrainian troops have settled at militia bases and occupied the gelatin factory. The vehicles are new and freshly painted, very similar to those that took part in the parade in Kyiv," one of the city dwellers said.
