SCO supreme court judges to meet in Astana this September
ALMATY. Aug 28 (Interfax) - Supreme court presidents from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states are to hold the ninth meeting in Astana on September 4, according to a spokesperson for the Kazakhstan Supreme Court.
The meeting will focus on improving and assessing courts' performance, election and appointment of judges, and the openness of the judicial system, the spokesperson said on Thursday.
The attendees will also discuss the use of information and communication technologies at legal proceedings and a number of practical issues relating to the administration of justice.
A separate workshop will focus on the role of supreme court judges in fighting terrorism.
At the end of the meeting the SCO supreme court presidents are expected to sign a Joint Statement to increase cooperation and partnership to jointly promote the rule of law and to protect the human rights and fundamental liberties.
